Technology is an integral component of a Seton Hall education. The role of technology is set forth in the University's Mission Statement and carried out in a variety of ways across campus. Freshmen are introduced to their SHU e-mail and network accounts before classes begin, and by the first day of class, they are expected to know how to use their new laptops. Faculty members implement technology in their courses in a variety of ways. Many faculty members have taken advantage of Curriculum Development Initiative grants (CDI's) to develop elaborate computer-based instruction for their classes. An online Blackboard course is automatically created for every class or class section at SHU, and increasing numbers of faculty take advantage of this course management tool to provide announcements, lecture notes, supplementary materials, discussion boards, or assessments for their students. Many classes continue to meet in Blackboard chat rooms when weather or other situations prevent them from meeting on campus. Many faculty members develop creative and informative Web sites, and some even assign Web site development to students as course projects. In Yahoo Internet Life's last survey of technology on college campuses, Seton Hall was ranked as the 13th most wired university in the United States. |
