What is a Student Technology Assistant (STA)?
An STA is Seton Hall University student that works within the Department of Information Technology in web design, technical support, web casting, videotaping, video editing, computer training and much more.
What is the Student Technology Assistant program?
The program is designed to bring students, faculty, staff and administration together by allowing students to support teaching and learning within the University. As agents of Seton Hall and University Computing, the STA program provides students with the opportunity to work with technology and to support members of the university both in and out of the classroom. The STA program is student-centered and student-run, providing students with a structured experience in technology support and consulting services. STAs enjoy the benefits of professional development and empowerment through their participation in the program. They find that their resumes are more attractive to potential employers then those of their peers. This is due to the fact that they have 2 – 4 years of solid work experience in delivering quality technology services in addition to earning their academic degree. Also student employees develop the necessary technical and professional skills through a unique STA development initiative enabling them, regardless of academic major, to enter the technology work force upon graduation.
There are two areas in which students can work side by side with technology professionals and faculty:
- PC Support Services (PCSS) is the first level of support for laptops, desktops, and printers for the SHU Community. PCSS is responsible for all troubleshooting, distribution/set-up and maintenance of all hardware and software assets on the SHU campus
- Academic Consultants for Excellence (ACE) promotes and supports technology in a teaching and learning environment. ACE is responsible for maintaining audio-visual equipment in select classrooms, acting as the main contact of all faculty technology projects and offering classes in various areas of SHU software.
